Tribute to J. Kerr Millar FInstTA, Director of the Institute of Transport Administration
Colleagues and friends have paid tribute to the highly respected Director of the Institute of Transport Administration who died very suddenly in March. Kerr Millar became Director in 1996 and ran the office, which moved to Horsham in 2000, single-handedly. Kerr's wealth of knowledge and experience, combined with his happy and jovial approach, made him well respected and liked by the members.
He was widely experienced in all aspects of transport, warehousing, logistics and administration. He had a very successful twenty-five years with Ciba-Geigy and a further ten years as Logistics Director with BASF. His enthusiasm and drive were instrumental in the reactivation of some dormant Centres of the Institute that remain active and thriving today.
His love of people and ability to interact with others helped in his organising of the Annual Conference. where he took the opportunity to personally meet as many of the members as possible.
Kerr leaves behind an efficient and well-run organisation that he would hope will continue to go from strength to strength. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be very sadly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
